How much of a deposit is needed to reserve any given charter?
The Sea Dog and its crew would like to think that anyone wanting to go fishing will show up for their charter, they only require $100 to secure a trip in good faith. We only charter in the peak months of the season, so a tight schedule is usually in place. Payment in full is not common but sometimes requested for high volume fishing times.
Payment
We do except credit cards at the marina but there is a 5% discount for cash or check. Make sure you know of this before you book. Travelers Checks, and cash are generally the only other payments taken. Please don't bring a personal check unless you cleared it with us prior.
Cancellation Policy
Captain Chris will be the only one to cancel a trip due to weather. 48 hrs for you to notify Chris of cancellation. The amount of refund will reflect circumstances.
Boat Amenities
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
Yes.
Should I bring my own fishing gear?
You can bring anything you like to carry, check it out with the captain prior to booking to make sure; however, we carry all the gear you need for your trip.
What should we bring?
You should be prepared to bring whatever you want to eat, drinks (water, Gatorade, sodas, alcohol) Sunscreen lotion, a good pair of polarized sunglasses, white soled shoes, a jacket on cool or rainy days, a hat, and maybe a camera. No matter what, bring only what you think you will need,
NOTE: Don't forget your med's, and if you are on antibiotics make sure sun exposure will not have an adverse effect.
What is supplied?
You can be sure that we will have the following: Rods, reels, bait, tackle, and plenty of ice. We also provide a fishing license for everyone.
How many people can I bring on my charter?
The Sea Dog is a 42 foot custom boat that carries up to 6 people and the 19ft Carolina skiff is 2 to 4 people. It does not matter if one of the people is not fishing or if one of the persons is a baby; they are still a heartbeat and that is all that matters to the Coast Guard that mandates how many people we can carry on our boats.
How many fish will I catch?
Sounds funny huh? But we get this question all the time. When we can predict this we won’t be taking you fishing anymore. Seriously though, it depends on what we fish for, when we fish for it, and what the conditions are for that day.
The Sea Dog fishes commercially for a living most of the year and is in touch with the entire fishingfleet to give him an edge on whats happening daily.
Can I mount my fish?
Catch a trophy? Want to take it home? Yes you can. Captain Chris is an agent at Gray Taxidermy for 20 years. Let him know you are looking for a mount so that he gets the proper info from your catch.
NOTE: You do not have to kill a fish to mount it.
Can I Keep my fish?
You can keep all the fish we bring home. There is also a fish cleaning service at Hatteras Harbor. Be sure to bring a cooler for bringing your cleaned fish home. We provide ice for free.
Will I get seasick on my charter?
If you feel as though you or someone in your group has a problem with motion sickness please consider avoidance of offshore fishing charters. If you still intend on going offshore please take a precautionary drug such as Dramamine, Bonine or Triptone at least 45 minutes prior to your charter's departure. Check with a doctor prior to charter to be sure which is best for you. No refunds will be issued due to seasickness.
